Helderbergers braved warm weather conditions and queues to participate in the annual Shavathon by the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) at Mediclinic Vergelegen in Somerset West on Friday 7 October. Many locals, in a show of support to those battling or affected by cancer, either chopped off their manes, shaved their heads, coloured their hair or sacrificed a bail-out fee in donation to the worthy cause. The event provides the opportunity to give back by raising funds for cancer patient care and support programmes through shaving or spraying, or by making a hair donation for wigs. It forms part of a series of initiatives held at the medical facility in October. Hospital staff supported a pledge day, which called on employees to have a breast examination this past Friday (14 October)
