Strand RFC suffered their first defeat against a strong CPUT team this past weeknd, which means Helderberg RFC are the only unbeaten team in the basin.

Meanwhile, Strand United narrowly won the Super League C derby against Raithby Universals, finally getting that elusive away victory.

A full house of fixtures awaits club rugby fans this week. Let’s look at this week’s menu:

)
St George’s vs Collegians – Gustrouw

The Lulus are looking like the kind of team you don’t want to face in the knockout stages as their experienced players are showing their stripes when it matters most. Collegians are not the force I thought they’d be this season, and I don’t think they’re looking forward to travelling to Strand for the second week running.

)
All Saints vs Helderberg – Helderzicht

Wow! This is a mouthwatering fixture. All Saints could be the team to break Berge hearts. The visitors are undoubtedly the top team in Super League B, but they surely realize their biggest test comes this week. Saints need to compete upfront and defend like demons against the quick Helderberg backs. Expect fireworks.

)
Strand United vs Blue Stars – Klapmuts

United grinded out a derby victory when the odds were stacked against them. To a large extent, they face similar opposition in similar circumstances. Stars’ fans are passionate and their players will play until the final whistle. This is finals rugby for 14th-placed United.

)
Raithby Universals vs Morning Stars – Durbanville:
RU will be kicking themselves for losing the derby. They are also in a precarious position on the log, and going to Klapmuts is not ideal at this point. Stars are winning at home and will target this match for maximum points.

)
Macassar vs Albions – Macassar

The MC Boys are back to winning ways and will be happy to be back at Riverside. Another win for them will lead to a close finish for second place and sure semi-final. Albions should not cause too many hassles.

)
Sir Lowrians vs Masiphumelele – Noordhoek:
The Navy Train’s top-nine quest started with a loss to Violets and, unfortunately, travelling to Noordhoek could even be deemed as more difficult. Masi are physical and effective. Sir Low need to play out their skins to pull this one off.

)
Gordon’s Bay Pioneers vs Retreat – Naval Grounds:
GBP start their quest for more silverware with a match against Die Pers Bulle. Retreat are physical and will test the hosts in all aspects. I think Gordon’s Bay Pioneers’ current form will pull them through, though.
