A high-speed chase early Tuesday morning (6 May) culminated in the arrest of two suspects, after they allegedly stole a generator from the AM Security offices in Main Road, Strand.
The father-and-daughter duo are in hospital under police guard.
According to AM Security response officer Chatley Gordon, the theft of the generator occurred at 05:20, and armed response company was immediately alerted and initiated a pursuit of the suspects.
The chase involved four vehicles from Gordon’s Bay Security and two from AM Security in pursuit of the suspects along Hassen Khan Avenue and Johaar Adams Street in Gustrouw.
“During the pursuit, my vehicle made contact with theirs, and their car overturned,” Gordon recalled of the collision in Hassen Khan Avenue, near Masjied Ummah.
The two occupants of the vehicle, identified as a man on crutches and his daughter, sustained injuries in the collision.
Both persons were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and are under police guard, Strand police confirmed.
The stolen generator was recovered from the scene of the collision.
“They will be charged at a later stage as soon their condition improves and they are discharged from hospital
They remain in custody,” a Strand police spokesperson said.
“Both the 63-year-old man and his 37-year-old daughter have been detained by the police for housebreaking at a business premises.”
