Somerset West police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving after two young pedestrians were struck down on the N2 highway on Monday 29 July. According to police spokesperson Sergeant Suzan Jantjies the accident was reported at 16:33. It is alleged two children were struck by a police vehicle on the highway opposite the Garden Village residential area. “The vehicle was travelling on the highway, in the direction of Strand, when it was said to have swerved out of the way to avoid colliding with another vehicle approaching at high speed from behind. In swerving towards the yellow line, two schoolchildren were struck. “The accident victims were transported to hospital.” The police vehicle is attached to Claremont Police Station.
