The MC Boys displayed their all-round credentials when they beat Busy Bees 28-11 in Saturday’s Super League C fixture at Langa Stadium in Langa.

Despite being at the wrong end of some strict and bizarre referee decisions, the MC Boys led 25-6 at the break following a high-quality first half of rugby.

However, four yellow cards and one red for the men from Macassar turned the match on its head, as the visitors struggled to regain their momentum in the second half and could only manage three points in the second half.

The MC Boys produced an all-round package and were very hard to stop on Saturday. They overpowered the men from Langa in the scrum and possessed backs who run brilliant lines and play with intelligence. Then, on defence, they smothered the hosts with their line speed and big hits.

It was just a sublime mix of power and panache. Tight head prop Nangamso Bukani delivered his best performance to date, as he single–handedly motorised the visitor’s scrum with only seven forwards to their disposal after loose-head prop Anwar Benjamin was red carded.

The visitors scored the first try of the encounter when stalwart winger Breyton Kleyn put his brother Byron Kleyn away with a fantastic pass to score 0-5.

Midfielders Cheslyn Cyster and Dylan Jafta took control of the match with help from their juggernaut pack to put the home side under pressure with a constricted defensive effort. Cyster crossed over himself after a timely intercept to cross over under the uprights. The score was 0-12

The home side, though, hit back with two quick penalties to add to their tally, 6-12

Influential captain on the day Burnodick Julius then crossed the line for a converted score, after a patient and methodical build-up play from the MC Boys. Flyhalf Garth de Bruin succeeded with two penalties to close out the first half at 6-25.

The game though changed in the 44th minute when Benjamin was sent off minutes after the restart. The home side took advantage of the mismatch and scored their first try of the match three minutes later following a sustained period of pressure, at which the score was 11-28

It was a gutsy and clinical performance from the MC Boys, and while it was their forward dominance that set up a handy lead at the first half, it was arguably the way they resisted a strong period of Busy Bee pressure in the second half with only 13 men at one stage that was the real turning point of the game. Number 8 Clint Stewart can’t put a foot wrong as he continues to impress with each game.
