Even at this late stage of the season, rugby clubs in the Helderberg clubs have all to play for in the coming weeks. There are play-off spots up for grabs, Top 9 promotion is on the cards and, unfortunately, there are relegation battles as well.

The Lulu Boys, MC Boys and Saints have the weekend off, which I see as the perfect opportunity to regroup.

Helderberg are still unbeaten after 12 rounds and they secured a Super League B semi-final last week already. They can now focus on fine-tuning combinations before their final hurdle in their quest to return to Super League A.

Helderberg vs Young Peoples – Paarl

Having won their crunch derby last week, Berge travel to Paarl to face inconsistent Peoples. The visitors will surely win and keep their unbeaten record intact.

)
Raithby Universals vs Eerste River – Raithby

This is a traditional derby that RU have won more often than not. If there was a perfect opportunity for the hosts to claim valuable points, it is now. RU could kiss their Super League C status goodbye if they lose this one. Rivas are a gritty outfit and won’t be pushovers.

)
Strand United vs Blue Jets – Kraal

United find themselves in a difficult position, but I think they have it under control. Their remaining fixtures are against fellow strugglers, and thus they have their fate in their own hands. Having gained five points from their two recent away games, they should be in better spirits. Winning bottom-of-log Jets is vital to their cause. The visitors are enterprising and play at a fast pace for 80 minutes. United’s homeground advantage should carry them through to get the valuable log points.

)
Strand vs Blue Stars – Gustrouw

Strand fell short to CPUT in their last fixture, but I don’t think it will effect their course in any way. Stars should be competitive in the early stages of the match, but the Strand machine will get going and outpace the visitors.

  • Sir Lowrians are struggling to get going in the Top 9 Promotion League after two consecutive losses. Another loss could take them out of the running for promotion.
  • Gordon’s Bay Pioneers continued their winning ways against Retreat. The higher intensity match was exactly what GBP needed to make them realise what’s needed next season.
