A resident of the Helderberg came across this vehicle illegally dumping sewage waste in an open field at the corner of the N2 and Sir Lowry’s Pass Road. On closer inspection it was discovered the vehicle belonged to a company contracted to the City of Cape Town and responsible for cleaning and de-silting of sewer sand traps. Photos and video footage were forwarded to the City by the resident, and in response the City’s Water and Sanitation Department confirmed “the directorate is investigating this matter.” Residents have expressed concern over possible health risks emanating from the dumping and enquired whether the City would continue with the tender awarded to the contractor in light of the allegations.
