The City of Cape Town’s Electricity Generation and Distribution Department’s critical planned upgrade for the Helderberg area, which was scheduled to take place this past Saturday (8 June), has been postponed to this Saturday (15 June) and next Saturday (22nd).

The work will take place from 06:00 to 20:00 on both days, weather-permitting.

Please note that the outage duration is an estimation and restoration could be delayed due to the complex nature of the infrastructure work. The teams will work as quickly as possible to complete the work within the communicated time.

Should the power not be restored within communicated time frames residents are advised to check the City’s official communication channels, including the City’s social media channels, or contact the Call Centre before logging a service request in relation to the planned upgrade work.

Some news channels could imply that this work affects all areas of the city. This is not true. The work will be carried out in the Helderberg area only.

The following areas in the basin will be affected by the planned upgrades:

  • Triangle industrial area
  • Helderberg Village
  • Remhoogte
  • Jonkershoogte
  • Heldervue
  • Steenbras View
  • Helena Heights
  • Greenway Rise
  • Goede Hoop
  • Dorhill

Please note:

The electricity supply could be restored at any time and customers must please treat all electrical installations as live for the full duration of the interruption. Residents are encouraged to switch off appliances as a precaution and to avoid damage caused by power surges when the power comes back on.

For queries, contact the City’s Call Centre on 0860 103 089.
