Following a collision involving a supermarket delivery motorcycle, the Shoprite Group has confirmed the injured driver has recovered and resumed his duties. The incident occurred on Tuesday 1 November, when the motorcyclist allegedly tried to overtake a vehicle as it was turning off Gordon Road in Somerset West. While the Shoprite Group could not confirm circumstances surrounding the incident, it did express the importance of safe driving disciplines, which is continuously reiterated with the various delivery driving teams to improve any drivers’ shortcomings. “Contracted drivers possess valid driver’s licences, undergo comprehensive practical driving skill assessments through accredited driver assessors, and have access to a third party and personal protection insurance,” stated the group. “The drivers also receive extensive on-board training covering a wide spectrum of aspects, such as advanced driving skills, safety protocols and accident procedures, defensive driving techniques, anti-hijacking driving techniques.” It urged the public to compliment good or report bad driving behaviour via 0860 669 999.Photo: Wallace du Plessis
