The Helderberg Hospice Open Gardens Festival takes place this weekend, and the art of gardening is very much the focus of this year’s beautifully curated selection of outdoor spaces. Breathtaking views, quirky sculptures, expertly trimmed topiary, clever use of colour and texture – each of the 14 gardens offered the visitors a different expression of the garden owners’ love of gardening. Locals and their families get to enjoy a whole weekend of gorgeous gardens in support of the palliative care that Helderberg Hospice renders to the community, to offer peace, comfort and dignity when it matters most. If you spot the pink Open Gardens car, remember to SMS 31868 with your name, and where you saw it, and stand a chance to win two tickets to the festival. Maps and directions will be available from Friday 20 October at Helderberg Hospice, 21 Old Stellenbosch Road, Somerset West. Tickets can be bought online from the Helderberg Hospice website: helderberghospice.org.za/shop/. For more information contact Celéstine on 021 852 4608 or 076 062 5855.

Last Friday (13 October) marked Rugby World Cup Day at Helderberg Hospice, and the staff enjoyed a boerewors-roll lunch and a rugby quiz led by quizmaster Harry van der Merwe. The hospice team implores locals to wear their team colours to Helderberg Hospice Open Gardens, which takes place from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 October. The adventure starts at Helderberg Hospice, where you will collect your treasure map, which leads you on to a further 13 gardens and an art studio. While you are adventuring, share photos on social media and you could stand a chance to win a weekend away for a family of four in Robertson at Amandalia Cottages sponsored by Go Adventure.
