Motorists planning to travel along Clarence Drive (R44) between Gordons Bay and Rooi Els should brace for significant traffic disruptions in the coming weeks due to emergency flood damage repairs.

The Western Cape Government has announced that essential work will necessitate both lane closures and a full road closure during selected days to ensure the safe passage of traffic during the construction period.

The repairs will involve the installation of stormwater infrastructure, as well as the resurfacing of the parking areas.

According to the official notice, lane closures will be in effect during daytime hours from Monday 5 to Thursday 22 May. A full road closure is scheduled for a week, from Thursday 8 to Thursday 15 May, excluding Saturdays and Sundays. During the full closure, the road will be shut daily between 09:00 and 16:00.

To manage traffic flow during these periods, a stop/go system will be implemented. Motorists are urged to exercise caution and patience while navigating the construction zone.

The Western Cape Government appealed to the public to “drive carefully during this period of construction.”
