Helderberg motorists can take advantage of free vehicle safety inspections at the local AVTS testing centre. This is part of the Western Cape Government’s road safety initiative this October marking Mobility Month.
The inspections are available at AVTS Strand from Tuesday 14 to Thursday 16 October. These continue on Tuesday 21 to Thursday 23 October. They are available between 08:00 and 15:00, offering convenient access for local residents. This is particularly beneficial for scholar transport and public transport operators.

Qualified examiners will assess key safety components including tyres, brake lights, suspension, and wipers. While not a full roadworthy test, these checks determine whether vehicles are safe to drive. Each motorist receives a printed report highlighting any issues needing attention.
Locals can also access inspections at nearby centres for added convenience.

The initiative targets the prevention of mechanical failures that cause highway breakdowns and accidents. Driver licences won’t be checked for fines or warrants โ the focus is purely on vehicle safety.
Western Cape Mobility Minister Isaac Sileku emphasises the value for local communities: “These checks give motorists peace of mind before setting off on their journeys. By working together, we can prevent crashes caused by avoidable mechanical failures. This will make our roads safer for everyone.”
