Local firefighters Renaldo Duncan (left) and Jermaine Carelse (right) were among dedicated Safety and Security officials honoured at the annual City of Cape Town Awards on Friday 1 December. Various teams and members of management across City departments received nominations and awards for going beyond the call of duty. The Helderberg duo were honoured for raising more than R180?000 for the Volunteer Wildfire Service. The pair in a true show of determination and endurance successfully completed the Two Oceans Half-marathon kitted out in their firefighting gear on Sunday 16 April (“Champions for charity,” DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette, 19 April 2023). “I want to commend the award-winning staff for their unwavering dedication, professionalism and commitment to upholding the highest standards in public safety,” said JP Smith, Mayoral Committee member for Safety and Security. “Their tireless efforts have undoubtedly made a positive impact on the communities they serve. I want to commend our senior management for creating an environment that facilitated so many nominations and awards.”
