Igsaan Hugo from Cobra Watertech located in Cape Town treated youths from Macassar to a hike up Woodstock Caves. Hugo explained that the hike took place on Friday 16 June in celebration of Youth Day. “This year our focus was on our environment and how litter impacts our community and the City of Cape Town’s infrastructure,” he said. “As we hiked up towards Woodstock Caves we discussed ways of safely engaging with our community members regarding ways to create awareness and drives to take care of our environment.” Hugo added with the recent heavy flooding in Helderberg and Macassar he believed litter had played a big part in blocking up the stormwater drainage infrastructure. “It is important to emphasise that water, sanitation and our environment all tie into one.” Pictured with Hugo are the Macassar youths who joined him on the hike.
