Janita Sauls, a theatre scrub sister at Helderberg Hospital, won a pair of new work boots in a lucky draw for staffers on International Nurses Day which is celebrated annually on 12 May. To commemorate the event, Helderberg Hospital management allowed valued nursing staff, around 197 in total, to stand a chance to win a pair of stylish Pierre Cardin shoes. Altogether 148 pairs of footwear, which were collected as part of “The Big Shoe Drive” at Somerset West Primary School on Saturday 6 May and donated to the hospital, were up for grabs in lucky draws held for four shifts. According to HH CEO Sharon Leo Nurses Day is all about shining the light on these crucial health-sector personnel, thanking the front-line champions for the selfless work they do daily.Photo: Rick Marais
