Authorities are pursuing suspects involved in an alleged carjacking that occurred in Onverwacht Road, Lwandle on Saturday 8 November.

According to Lwandle police spokesperson Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama, a 40-year-old man driving a white Toyota Corolla (registration CEY 95039) was targeted when a black Volkswagen Polo suddenly stopped in front of his vehicle. Three unknown gunmen emerged from the vehicle and threatened the victim at gunpoint, demanding he exit his vehicle.

“The suspects allegedly drove off with the victim and drugged him,” Gama related. “The following day he regained consciousness in bushes in Grabouw, having been abandoned by his attackers.”

A carjacking case has been opened and is being investigated by the Bellville Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit.

The investigating officer, Detetive Sergeant SW Mbambonduna, appeals for public assistance in locating the suspects and the stolen vehicle.

In light of the incident Lwandle police issued the following safety recommendations for motorists:

• contact police for assistance during vehicle breakdowns;

• remain vigilant of your surroundings and report suspicious people or vehicles;

• have someone ready to open gates or garage doors when arriving home;

• exercise extreme caution at traffic lights and stop signs;

• avoid giving lifts to strangers, particularly at night;

• install vehicle tracking devices to aid recovery if stolen; and
