Four masked intruders tied up a 72-year-old man at a Firgrove farm on Wednesday night (29 October), stealing firearms, jewellery and wines before the victim freed himself and alerted police early Thursday morning.

Somerset West police are investigating a case of house robbery after an elderly man fell victim to a home invasion on Wednesday 29 October.

According to police spokesperson Sergeant Suzan Jantjies, the incident occurred at a farm near Firgrove around 21:00. The victim, a 72-year-old man who was house-sitting for a friend, was awakened by barking dogs and discovered four intruders inside the property.

“The suspects – four African men whose faces were concealed with balaclavas and wearing gloves – allegedly tied the complainant’s hands and ransacked the house,” Jantjies disclosed.

The robbers grabbed two firearms and ammunition, jewellery and expensive wines before fleeing the scene.

“At around 01:00 on Thursday morning (30 October), the complainant alerted police after managing to untie himself,” Jantjies said.

The four suspects remain at large. Police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist the investigation or lead to arrests to contact Somerset West police on 021 850 1303.
