A 64-year-old woman from Helen Square informal settlement in Nomzamo was granted the gift of mobility thanks to a donation of crutches by Ward 86 councillor Unathi Lasiti. Nombulelo Mphunyuka had difficulty moving around after she had developed boils on her left foot and back about a year ago. When he heard of her predicament, Lasiti tapped into his network and approached organisations and individuals in a bid to aid Mphunyuka. A good Samaritan from Athlone heeded the call and anonymously donated the crutches, which were handed to the stricken elder on Monday 1 August. “I would like to thank Councillor Lasiti for the [the effort he went to in getting the] crutches,” Mphunyuka said. “For a very long time I could not walk, but now because of him and the donor I can.” Pictured at the handover (from left) are Mphunyuka, Lasiti and Mduduzi Kunene (community leader of the Helen Square informal settlement).Foto:
