Four suspects were arrested and abalone worth an estimated R600 000 seized in a bust outside Grabouw earlier this week. This success followed authorities swooping on two vehicles on the N2 between the Houw Hoek farm stall and High Rising on Monday morning (26 September). According to Captain Raldeen Atson, spokesperson for the Grabouw police, officers in an intelligence-driven operation in cooperation with Overstrand law enforcement pulled over a silver Land Rover Discovery with four occupants around 06:35. “On inspection, officers found 29 plastic bags containing 3 760 units of abalone worth an estimated R600 000 in the vehicle,” she said. “The men, between 25 and 34 years old, were arrested.” According to Atson, officers also flagged down a white Toyota Corolla and arrested a 26-year-old man found with 29 West Coast rock lobster and three lobster tails valued at R3 000 in his possession. The suspects were expected to appear in the Grabouw Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (27 September).
