In the spirit of bringing hope a little closer to home, local NPOs Uyanda Foundation and Academy Centre have partnered with Samaritan’s Feet SA to distribute “Shoes of Hope” to over 1 000 children in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village, promoting both health and education. Excitement filled the air at Sir Lowry’s Pass Primary School as the shoe donation initiative kicked into full gear, bringing joy and support to learners, teachers, and representatives from various partnering organisations. The organisers noted that a highlight of the initiative was building a personal connection with every single learner. Each child gained access at the entrance, passed through registration and handwashing stations, and sat down with volunteers who lovingly washed their feet before fitting their brand-new school shoes. Pictured during an intimate moment of affirmation is Uyanda Foundation volunteer Lorraine Pietersen with Grade 1 learner Me-Shegan Dikana.
Each child walked away with sturdy, comfortable shoes that will support their educational journey.
Tracie Ohonme, Samaritan’s Feet SA board member, connected with her new friend Beyoncé Sisi, who enthusiastically gave her new shoes two thumbs up. The seven-year-old Grade 1 learner was sent on her way with a blessing and a smile.
