Two years ago, Rheinmetall Denel Munition (RDM) established the Macassar Community Centre, a beacon of hope and support to the Macassar and broader Helderberg community, especially the youth.
The centre was initiated to combat unemployment, a significant challenge in the basin, and has since become a vital resource for individuals across all age groups seeking to enhance their skills and employability.
The centre offers a comprehensive range of services, including basic computer literacy, job readiness and interview-skills training. Each course culminates in a certification ceremony, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of its students.
It operates weekly from 08:00 to 16:00, providing essential services such as photocopying, scanning, job application support and CV creation as well as training programmes led by experts in their fields.
Christian Janekke, a registered recruiter, helps equip students with crucial interview techniques, preparing them for successful career pursuits. Relebogile Diphoko oversees the computer training, ensuring participants gain the digital skills necessary in today’s job market. Additionally, they offer guidance on tertiary education applications and career planning for matriculants.
Highlighting their collective achievements, the second graduation ceremony was at the RDM clubhouse on Friday 5 July. It celebrated the accomplishments of 70 graduates, who successfully completed their training this year.
The ceremony was attended by RDM human resources general manager Agatha Tshabalala and Ward 109 councillor Peter Helfrich, both of whom commended the graduates for their efforts and achievements.
