Tereo, located in Somerset West’s Victoria Road, is a special-purpose school for street children and those at risk in the Helderberg.
Established in 1999, it caters for Grade 1 to 7 learners who face severe poverty, violence and trauma. For these children, Tereo is often the sole source of stability, nourishment and clothing, with some even managing household responsibilities.
Tereo seeks to transform children’s lives by breaking the poverty cycle and nurturing self-sufficiency. Its offerings include robust education, healthcare, meals, counselling, family aid and community outreach. Despite food donations from local supermarkets throughout the year, these donations halt from December to February, leaving many families vulnerable.
To address this gap we aim to provide food parcels with essentials such as rice, samp, beans, tuna, cooking oil, sugar, coffee, maize meal, and soup packs to each family. We appeal to DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette readers for donations to sustain families during this critical period.
Donations can be delivered to Tereo during office hours. Please call 021 851 4005 or 082 678 9077 to confirm availability for drop-off.
Your generosity can significantly impact these families’ lives. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
