Somerset West police are investigating a case of armed robbery after a teenage girl from Sir Lowry’s Pass allegedly fell victim to two suspected predators on the prowl.
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Suzan Jantjies, an incident occurred around 20:45 on Thursday 3 November. She said the 16-year-old complainant claimed she was on her way to the shop when she was apparently targeted by two occupants of a suspicious-looking white BMW, which was driving in the vicinity of Mahanyele Street without number plates.
“The complainant was walking down the street when the vehicle allegedly stopped not far from the shop,” Jantjies said. “Two men unknown to the complainant apparently got out the vehicle and walked towards the minor. The men allegedly yelled out to her ‘Izapha’. The complainant began to run and the men allegedly pursued her.
“The complainant allegedly fell to the ground in the chase and one of the men proceeded to grab her by the legs, pulling her back into the street. The complainant noticed the BMW coming closer to her. However, an eyewitness came to her aid, yelling at the perpetrators.”
Jantjies said the men fled with the complainant’s cellphone, which they looted following the complainant’s attempt to fling it to the witness.
“It is also alleged that one of the suspects took out a firearm and one shot was fired in during the incident, but no-one was injured.”
