Saturday 5 November marked the second R5 project organised by Round Table Somerset West 31 at the Waterstone Shopping Centre for the year.
The Tablers set up stall in front of the newly remodelled Pick n Pay and surprised many shoppers with their offer to “give them R5”.
The idea of the project is to give a member of the Somerset West community a R5 coin in the hopes that they would use the coin, add what is necessary to a sum and buy a product to be donated to a specified charity. The young men from the Round Table nominated to support Heartlands Baby Sanctuary and the Helderberg Animal Welfare Society.
“We gave out R2 005 worth of coins and received a total of R12 961,90 value in product donations,” said Aliston Beviss-Challinor of the Round Table.
“We also received a further R1 620 in cash donations that will be split evenly between the two charities.”
Round Table Somerset West 31 would like to thank all Waterstone centre management and patrons for their support, citing the initiative as a “true community effort that will hopefully make an impactful change”.
Look out for the next project by Round Table Somerset West in 2023, but until then, support the Noddy’s Party!
