The bail application of the suspects accused of murdering Constable Surprise Kwezi Mnqabe (33) has been postponed numerous times since 10 January


The formal bail application of the four man accused of murdering a police officer in Lwandle on Christmas Day (Sunday 25 December 2022) has again been postponed to Thursday 23 and Friday 24 February.

The bail application of the suspects accused of murdering Constable Surprise Kwezi Mnqabe (33) has been postponed numerous times since 10 January (“Four murder accused back in the docks,” DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette, 11 January).

Nelson Motumi (27), Bongisizwe Dyongo (26), Athenkosi Matutu (21) and Unathi Mpaliso (25) appeared swiftly in the Strand Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday (7 February), before the case was again postponed.

Mnqabe succumbed to stab and gunshots wounds in Phaliso Street in Asanda Village between 06:30 and 06:45 on Christmas Day.

Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Philani Nkwalase, confirmed the case has been postponed for further investigation. The four suspects remain in custody until the next appearance.
