Vergelegen’s inaugural photography competition attracted more than 500 entries, and the good news is that the winning images are on display in the wine estate’s library until the end of June.

The photographs are diverse and spotlight the many features of the spectacularly beautiful Somerset West estate, declared a provincial heritage site four years ago.

Exhibition highlights include:

  • Camera class winner: A blue crane bird sculpture in the East Garden by Mike Hodgson.
  • Smartphone class first place: A sunflower field against a mountain backdrop by Navashni Knowlden.
  • Junior class winner: Vergelegen’s historic Octagonal Garden by Morgan Eaton.
  • People’s choice award: Vergelegen visitors with wine by Thomas Moss.

“We are delighted at the response, and extremely grateful to our partner and sponsor Orms photographic store,” said Vergelegen MD Wayne Coetzer.

“It took part in a rigorous judging process and also delivered first-class prints. It’s been fascinating to see the estate through the fresh perspective of these amateur and professional photographers. They succeeded in capturing the beauty and varied attractions of this wonderful property.”V The photographic exhibition runs until month-end.
