Op 90 is Hans nog springlewendig. Sy kinders boender hom egter vanuit hul tuistes in die buiteland uit sy lekker huis in die Kaap in Huis Madeliefie in. Hans se vindingryke pogings om uit Huis Madeliefie te ontsnap, word deur sy kinders en ’n drakoniese matrone in die wiele gery. Maar Hans laat hom nie voorskryf nie, en sy rebelsheid het geen keer nie. Vinnig is daar groot konsternasie in die tehuis. Hans se vele, en soms verdagte, nuwe vriende sorg vir groot pret en heelwat moeilikheid. Van daggakoekies en ’n boeremafia tot ontkleedansers en protesaksies, word Huis Madeliefie en sy inwoners onderstebo gekeer. Hans se storie is ’n storie van ons tyd.
