A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by four men, including three unknown assailants, in Strand, with the case now under the investigation of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, and no arrests have been made as authorities urge community safety precautions.

A case of rape is currently being investigated by authorities after a woman was allegedly attacked by four men, three of them unknown, in Strand.

According to a Strand police report the incident reportedly took place in Sercor Park between 23:00 on Friday 16 and 05:30 on Saturday 17 November.

It has been reported that the 25-year-old victim and her boyfriend planned to spend the night in an informal dwelling in Annike Close, which he had rented for them. They had a few drinks and went to sleep without any intimate interaction.

The following morning the victim reportedly woke up to find her boyfriend missing and the owner of the structure, along with three other unknown men, present in the dwelling. Realising she was naked from the waist down, she attempted to leave but was allegedly assaulted. Nevertheless, she managed to escape by screaming for help and was subsequently discovered by a passerby in Main Road, according to the report.

Strand police’s spokesperson Warrant Officer Nico Beukes confirmed the case has been handed over to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.

“No arrests have been made and no-one has been charged,” he said.

Strand police have implemented awareness programmes to combat rape cases and encourage the community to take precautions. “Avoid dark areas, do not walk alone, and always inform someone of your whereabouts,” Beukes said.
