Young Somerset West golfer goes for gold

Somerset West golfer Megan Streicher won the individual trophy at the South African Women’s 72-hole championship held at Paarl Golf Club from Monday 22 to Wednesday 24 May. Playing for Boland, she scored 4–under in the competition where she shot rounds of 68, 70, 73, and 73 to win by six shots.

Somerset West golfer Megan Streicher won the individual trophy at the South African Women’s 72-hole championship held at Paarl Golf Club from Monday 22 to Wednesday 24 May. Playing for Boland, she scored 4–under in the competition where she shot rounds of 68, 70, 73, and 73 to win by six shots. The tournament’s interprovincial teams event was won by Central Gauteng for the second consecutive year, with Boland A and Gauteng North tieing second. Streicher had just returned to the country for her college year-end holidays from North Carolina, USA, where she is on a golf scholarship. The 20-year-old has had a successful year with a few top 15 finishes in various tournaments, where she plays for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. In 2019, she was the overall winner of SuperSport and DistrictMail’s Let’s Play award following various golf achievements and awards, and has since been consistently ranked as one of the top golfers in the country.
